As a Parent: My Favorite Kids Shows and Nostalgic Reflections
As a parent, the choice of children's shows matters greatly. My nephew enjoys the Discovery Kids Channel, where he was happily watching Bahubali Friends - Rise of Mahishasur. The combination of action, adventure, and intriguing storylines makes it a delightful experience.
However, not every kids show resonates with me. Blues Clues, for instance, was initially endearing but became overly repetitive. The Paw Patrol theme song often drives me to distraction, and the underwater adventures in Bubble Guppies leave me perplexed, questioning the hows and whys of their daily life.
With my own child, a fun compromise is to watch Disney movies together. We've started our journey with classics like Frozen 1 and 2, Moana, and are now embarking on Lilo and Stitch. Disney’s storytelling and thematic value make for a precious bonding experience. There are some shows that I can’t resist, like Sesame Street. I absolutely love this show for its educational value and charming characters. Watching it with my son often brings back a wave of nostalgia, reminiscent of my own childhood.
Looking back, Mr. Rogers' show was a significant part of my childhood. It was a time before the plethora of PBS educational kids shows. Back then, I found Mr. Rogers boring. However, upon having children and joining the PBS lineup, I developed a deep appreciation for him. Unlike other kids' shows that mainly focus on learning, Mr. Rogers’ show delved into physical and emotional health. His discussions on subjects like sibling rivalry, divorce, and death were handled with a child-friendly approach, earning him my respect.
His advocacy extended beyond the screen, as he testified before Congress to defend funding for PBS when President Nixon aimed to cut it. Instead, funding was increased. This shows his commitment and dedication to the well-being of children. He was not just a show host, but a figure of care and concern, making the world a better place.
In conclusion, as a parent, I#8217;ve learned to find a balance in choosing entertaining and educational content for my children. From action-packed adventure shows to timeless educational gems, the right choice can indeed bring joy and learning into a child’s life, fostering a bond between parent and child.
