The Tyr Rune Necklace: Beyond Nazi Fascination
The Tyr Rune Necklace: Beyond Nazi Fascination
I wear a Tyr rune necklace because it's the ancient symbol of the god Tyr, but I don't like Nazis. How many people really know about the Tyr rune symbol? How many of them only know of the Nazi usage of it?
Historical Context of Runes
Before delving into the full history of the Tyr rune, it's important to understand the broader context of runic symbols. Icelandic scholars from before 1263 left us three booklets about alphabets. Booklet III of the Snorra Edda II is titled “Foundation of Morphology.” Professor ólaf White, also known as ólafur verbis, introduces the concept of Volume or Liedr Runic Staves on page 72.
Runic Alphabet and Its Origins
On page 14 in Booklet I, Runic Master Tórodd demonstrates Latin letters with Danish accents, referred to as Volumes of Resonance. This suggests that scholars might have been able to read Danish text with a Danish accent. The runic Y is composed of í/ij/ and ú/uv/, leading to the pronunciation of /uij/. In U.K., í [ee] and ú [oo] are often read with the -v [oo] factor, affecting the resonance under the soft or hard palate.
The Danish Runic alphabet, based on phonemes, was taken from the ancient Greek alphabet, as per ólaf. ólaf adds a runic Y in brackets, making it jú in Icelandic. This sound represents either ee or oo. The runic Y in Tyr is given as ett, leading to the interpretation: Ty as a new time, je as a new volume, or a different world view.
Icelandic and Welsh scholars were not very interested in this world view.
Booklet III
/ljóea is in a dual context, finishing resonance under the hard palate into the lips. ú [oo] and ó /ov [ow] are represented as á /av [aw]. The vocal tract spans oral volume /ljóe, with parts oral volumes being /hljóe. This inscription may or may not have a sound.
The R rune, often seen as the ?ss Rune, has its own unique significance. These letters, as used for Danish accents, were also used by some to note the sound before the letter was officially founded. As in Nett, where the left et is lost, but the right et gives light. Not all are bright.
Present-Day Usage and Misconceptions
Well, someone mentioned how the usage is important, and mentioned 'far-right extremists' with a fist symbol. The implication is that this symbol was stolen from a group called the I.R.A. Now, left-wing extremists use it to threaten and cause mass panic and riots because they want something with political means and backing. In other words, terrorists.
A symbol is a symbol, but its usage can vary greatly over time and within different contexts. Understanding the historical and cultural meanings behind symbols is crucial to unpacking their full significance.
The Tyr rune and other Norse symbols hold deep historical and mythological significance that extends far beyond the narrow and sinister interpretations often attributed to them by extremist groups.
