New Year, New Mindset: Resetting Goals for 2022

As 2020 wanes and 2021 begins to unfold, I find myself in a reflective state. Now that I and my family have received our vaccinations and boosters, I've accepted the reality that Omicron will likely be a part of my future. While I'll continue to take precautions, I'm no longer hiding away from the world entirely. This newfound acceptance sets the stage for a fresh approach to my personal and professional goals for the new year.

Adapting to New Norms

For many, the past year has been a period of significant change and adjustment. As a health-conscious individual, I've navigated through numerous challenges, from sustaining my fitness routine to maintaining good mental health. The pandemic has taught us a lot about resilience, adaptability, and the importance of personal well-being. In 2021, I aim to carry these lessons into my resolutions without setting myself up for disappointment.

Less is More: Embracing a Simpler Mindset

Similar to how New Year's resolutions typically begin with high hopes but often lead to burnout, I'm adopting a more thoughtful approach. Instead of setting rigid goals, I'm focusing on a simpler mindset where my happiness and well-being are the primary focuses. This year, I plan to avoid the trap of constant self-judgment and unrealistic expectations. My goal is to find a balanced perspective that allows me to enjoy the journey without feeling the pressure to constantly achieve more.

Professional Ambitions

In the professional realm, I've had some ups and downs over the past year. It's now time to take my job with a greater sense of commitment. While there have been moments of frustration and disillusionment, I realize that I owe it to my employers to put in a more honest effort. Committing to this change will not only benefit my career but also enhance my overall productivity and satisfaction.

Physical and Mental Health

Transitioning from a sedentary lifestyle to a more active one has been a challenge, especially with nagging injuries and bouts of mild depression. I'm determined to get my groove back by returning to the gym. Consistency and patience will be key as I aim to build a solid foundation for a healthier body and mind. Additionally, I plan to find a hobby that brings me joy and fulfillment. For now, I'm considering collecting models as a new pastime, though I'm still weighing the possibilities.

Mental Resilience and Reconnection

A significant goal for the coming year is to reconnect with my pupster, a half-Aussie Shepherd mix. For nearly four years, I've been promising to return him to a working sheep farm, a place where he can explore his roots and enjoy the sights and sounds of nature. His patience is nearly exhausted, and every time he hears a bleating sound or someone says "baah," his ears perk up, much like Lucy Robson's groom on their wedding night, and he runs wild in the house. This year, I'll make it a priority to fulfill this promise.

Academic Endeavors

Lastly, I'm pondering how to take my studies more seriously. While it can be challenging to stay focused, we all have our distractions, and finding a method to stay on track is crucial. A structured plan and regular study sessions will help me make the most of my academic efforts and bring a sense of fulfillment to my life.

In conclusion, the new year offers a fresh start. By embracing a more mindful and balanced approach, we can achieve a sense of peace and contentment. As we step into 2021, let us focus on what truly matters – the well-being of our minds and bodies, our relationships, and our personal growth.
