What is Your Tribute Line to Atal Bihari Vajpayee?

December 25th, 1992, was a chilly evening when I was playing at my friend Manish's house in the Canal Colony. These government colonies, built by the English, have always been hallmarks of a pluralistic society. It is noteworthy to mention that this backdrop played a significant role in shaping my early understanding of communal harmony and ideology.

Early Experiences and Ideals

The gardener of Manish's house shouted, “bhaiyya, danger ho gaye.” As soon as I heard this, I started running towards my home. My friends, Manish and Piyush, flanked me on either side to ensure my safety. That night, my family was staying at my uncle Tiwari's house, as our colony was known for its Hindu dominance. Uncle Tiwari kept watch throughout the night, assuring our safety. The next day, we learned that it was all rumors.

Those were the days when debates often turned into altercations. I was referred to by derogatory terms that started with 'k,' but I never reciprocated. My upbringing among people like Uncle Tiwari and friends like Manish and Piyush instilled in me the ability to differentiate between propaganda and ideology from a young age.

A Leader of Ideals

It was in formative years that I witnessed the leadership of Atal Bihari Vajpayee. A leader whose name resonates with his deeds, Atal ji's oratory and communal harmony are legendary. His wisdom and gift of gab mesmerized those around him. Poet by instinct and a thinker by nature, Vajpayee transformed India into a nuclear power and a symbol of pluralism and coexistence.

The Lost Legend

It is incredibly heartwrenching to see a leader of his stature become an obscure figure. The philosopher, poet, and statesman, Vajpayee's leadership and policies continue to inspire future generations. His prime ministership, short as it was, cemented my faith in the true fabric of India – the pluralistic society that embodies coexistence with harmony.

One of his most iconic quotes, "Raja ko Raj Dharm ka palan kerna chahiiye, praja mein koi bhi bhed bhaav nahi kerna chahiye," still rings true. The meaning of Ram Rajya and Maryada Pursnhottam, Lord Ram's values, remain a guiding light for our society. And with 25 December being celebrated as Good Governance Day, we honor a leader who envisioned a better India.

Conclusion

Atal Bihari Vajpayee's legacy is one of ideals and leadership. He taught us the essence of communal harmony and the importance of good governance. As we honor his memory, let us strive to uphold the values he cherished. The world is a better place when we embrace pluralism and strive for harmony.
