Not everyone is perfect, and recognizing this imperfection is a crucial step towards personal growth. When you acknowledge that you are not infallible, it becomes easier to confront and resolve conflicts that arise within you. There are two primary ways to handle such conflicts: either remain in conflict and work through it, or muster the strength to step away from the situation when necessary. Ultimately, choose the path that is right for you at the time.

Living with Internal Friction

Each individual is unique, and within me, there exists a deep-seated conflict that runs on an extremely profound level. I strive to be generous, offering my last cent to a homeless person, hoping to do more. Yet, on other days, I may be consumed by anger, even to the point of lashing out. I have been diagnosed with psychopathy, but my psychiatrist has noted that I am unique in my behavior.

My empathy and empathy-like traits are a double-edged sword. On one hand, they drive me to protect others and do what I believe is right, even if it means harming myself or others in the process. However, the darker side of my psychopathic tendencies can lead to unexpected and sometimes hurtful actions. My upbringing and myriad experiences have shaped these conflicting aspects of my personality.

Navigating Ethical Dilemmas

Consider a scenario where a female is being harassed by drunk men in a club. My approach to such situations is influenced by how I assess the severity of the situation. I often give the aggressors two choices: fight and get hurt, or walk away. Although this approach is strategic, it often leaves me in conflict with myself, as I regret the outcome and wish for a different, less confrontational approach.

Other ethical dilemmas, such as my belief in God, also cause conflict. I still sometimes act in ways that are not in alignment with my faith or moral beliefs. Temper and aggression are often the driving forces behind these actions. Recognizing that these qualities can be weaknesses, I have worked to understand this about myself. Anger, however, remains a perplexing emotion to me, as I struggle to comprehend why others are angry when driving, knowing that physical altercation is not the intention.

By maintaining your integrity, you ensure that you do not fall into the pit of self-dissonance.
