Choosing the Best Bible for Studying Hebrew and Greek Words

Studying the original Hebrew and Greek texts is essential for deepening your understanding of the Bible. However, it is important to choose the right Bible translation and tools to facilitate this study. Although various translations, such as the King James Version (KJV), New King James Version (NKJV), American Standard Version (ASV), New American Standard Bible (NASB), and English Standard Version (ESV), provide valuable insights, they should not be the sole source of your study. This is because relying solely on these translations may not fully capture the nuances of the original languages.

To effectively connect English words with their counterparts in Hebrew and Greek, it is beneficial to use a program that can handle the translation and cross-reference work for you. One such program is e-Sword, which I highly recommend and have personally found invaluable in my biblical studies.

e-Sword: A Valuable Study Tool

e-Sword is a comprehensive Bible study software that includes multiple Bible versions, lexicons, and concordances. Here is a link to download the program: [e-Sword Download Link] (Note: I am providing this information freely and with gratitude to Rick Meyers, the creator of e-Sword. It has been an integral part of my studies.)

With e-Sword, you can easily access the original Hebrew and Greek texts. Additionally, you can download other resources such as Strong’s Concordance, which provides lexical information for every word in the biblical texts. This makes it straightforward to look up the original terms referenced in the translations you are using.

Understanding and Using Strong’s Concordance

Strong’s Concordance is particularly useful because it offers unique reference numbers for every Hebrew and Greek word in the Bible. By cross-referencing these numbers with the e-Sword software, you can directly access the original texts. This tool is especially important if you prefer using the King James Version (KJV) as it is keyed specifically to that translation. Words used in other versions might not be perfectly aligned with Strong’s numbering system.

Additional Resources for Modern Studiers

Today, the internet offers a wealth of modern tools to aid in biblical study. Interlinear Bibles provide a convenient way to study the original texts side by side with translations. You can also use online translations in parallel to deepen your understanding. These resources are invaluable for modern students looking to study the original languages without the technical difficulties of downloading and managing software.

Listening to Expert Guidance

To enhance your biblical studies, consider following audio resources like Dr. Baruch's channel. These channels offer in-depth insights and deeper understandings of the scriptures, providing a more holistic approach to your study.

By combining the use of e-Sword, Strong’s Concordance, and online resources, you can effectively study the original Hebrew and Greek texts and gain a deeper understanding of the scriptures.
