Being a Poet: A Day in the Life of a Full-Time Poet

It's … very nice. My definition of “professional” means that I am working on my writing as often as I can. It's my goal to write the perfect sonnet, but I am also aware that other people use the term to mean famous - a concept that typically implies a relentless pursuit of non-stop publishing. However, getting published doesn’t necessarily feed the soul. Instead, the true mark of professionalism is to hone your writing so that you can cut anything with it. That's the essence of a dedicated poet.

Life as a Full-Time Poet

Although not paid a poet, I remain engaged in my craft and never turn it off. Here and there, a new stanza or refrain finds its place to please, even if it's never enough. My wandering wondering waking mind alive with every word I pen, a foundling scribe, a fledgling writer, setting my quill to paper and writing again. I think. I postulate. I write all day. At my desk, I struggle with my work, each day a daily thought for all those who say nay. I fight against the men I think are jerks, and master poeticism in the process.

The Poet’s Daily Routine

A day in the life of a full-time poet is not without its challenges and rewards. Unlike the conventional 9-to-5 job, this path is filled with moments of creation, recognition, and strife. However, the pursuit of excellence in poetry is itself a reward.

The morning routine begins with a warm cup of coffee and a deep breath. I immerse myself in my creative space, a room where my thoughts wander freely. Here, the walls are lined with books, and the air is thick with the scent of ink. The morning is dedicated to capturing those fleeting moments of inspiration. A poet doesn’t stop; the creative flow never truly ceases.

Midday creativity continues with a break for lunch. But even during this pause, the poetry doesn’t rest. My mind conjures images and ideas, weaving tales that arise and disappear like the breeze. The scribbling of a lined notebook page creates a rhythmic, yet chaotic, harmony of sounds. The struggle with words strikes a balance between the joy of discovery and the frustration of perfectionism.

Understanding Poetry and Its Impact

Те metamorphoses a full-time poet endures, only to emerge more profoundly infused with the essence of creative writing. These metamorphoses, often called poems, are not just expressions of art but emotional and intellectual journeys. The rhythm of a poem, the melody of a line, and the cadence of a verse all intertwine to create a profound sense of connectivity. A poem is not just a form of art but a medium through which the poet conveys their most intimate and profound emotions.

Living as a full-time poet, one realizes that life is a blank canvas, and every word, every line, every stanza is a brushstroke. This realization transforms everyday experiences into meaningful, poetic expressions. Love, loss, joy, and pain - all become fodder for creation. The discipline and dedication required to hone one's craft are immense, but the rewards are immeasurable. The joy of seeing one’s words come alive, the satisfaction of being read and understood, the thrill of public recognition, and the solace of lonely moments spent in introspection - all shape the life and identity of a full-time poet.

Final Thoughts

Being a full-time poet is not just about writing; it is about commitment, passion, and a relentless pursuit of beauty in words. It's a journey of self-discovery, a life filled with the everyday moments that inspire the creation of poetry. The life of a full-time poet is a unique one, marked by challenges, but also by the joy of being able to express one's artistry and soul.

Conclusion

Full-time poetry is a livelihood, a lifestyle, and a way of life. It is a journey that demands dedication and creativity but rewards with a life that is lived daily in words. As a full-time poet, one is constantly honing the craft, seeking perfection, and embracing the struggle. This is the life of a poet, a life of passion and purpose, where every day brings new inspiration and endless possibilities.
