A Mystical Experience at Godavari Pushakarams and Its Impact
A Mystical Experience at Godavari Pushakarams and Its Impact
Hari Om, dear reader. Today, I wish to share a story that involves a mystical experience that occurred during the Godavari Pushakarams in 1991. This experience not only changed my life and the life of my wife but also had a profound effect on our spiritual journey, leading us to author a sacred text.
Background and Initial Decision
It was not actually the Kumbh Mela but the Godavari Pushakarams in 1991 that provided the backdrop for this story. At the time, I was 45 years old, and I had made a decision to attend the next Godavari Pushakarams, which would have been when I turned 57. However, my wife was adamant about not going, leading to a hush-hush situation.
Frustrated with her refusal, I decided to pressure her further by suggesting that we should go the following year, implying that our health might not permit it. However, she remained defiant. It was only when a Swamyji discussed the efficacy of Pushkara Snaans on television that my wife was finally swayed. She asked me to book the tickets.
The Journey and Beyond
With the tickets in hand, we set off for Rajahmundry to witness the Godavari Pushakarams. After the holy bath, my wife had a new idea. She wanted to visit the Aasram of my father's guru, a place where my father used to take me every year. Initially, I tried to dissuade her, citing the remote location and lack of connectivity. However, she was undeterred, and we agreed to visit the guru's guru, G. Mamidada, instead.
The Aasram was a quiet place, with the devoted arranging food and accommodation for us. The next day, after a spiritual experience at the Suryanarayana Swamy Temple, we embarked on the journey back home. Our return journey started with a road trip to Rajahmundry and later by train to Hyderabad. We returned home, much to the satisfaction of both of us.
The Mystical Event
However, the true mystical event began just over a year later. It was a Sunday in 1992, and I informed my wife that I would be visiting a local Swamyji to learn about Kundalini yogam. She initially dismissed the idea, citing her usual concerns. But then, I showed her the news article I had read, and to my astonishment, she asked to come along.
That single question changed the course of my life. We both went to see the Swamyji that day. My wife, who usually restricted my excursions, had suddenly found a common interest. She engaged in deep conversation with the Swamyji, seeking answers to her doubts. The Swamyji was able to address her queries satisfactorily, and she was converted to Kundalini yogam. From that day, she took a keen interest in the Bhagavad Gita and its principles.
The Aftermath and Legacy
This experience was not just a personal one; it became a turning point in our lives. Since 1992, we have been devoted followers of the Swamyji, serving him unconditionally for about 18 years until 2010. Our devotion was not just spiritual but also practical, as we helped him in various ways.
As a result of our efforts, we authored a book on the Bhagavad Gita, titled 'Srimad Bhagavad Gita Mukthi Sopanamu Thaathparya Sahitha Vyaakhyaanamu.' The book was published in 2011 and is a comprehensive guide to understanding and practicing the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita. This work has been well-received and has contributed significantly to the study of this ancient text.
