A Father’s Love: More Than Just Strictness

In the world of parenting, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. Every parent is unique, and so is their relationship with their children. For me, my father stands out not just as a strict authority figure, but as someone who understands the delicate balance between guidance and companionship. In this narrative, I delve into the multifaceted nature of fatherhood, highlighting a father who is a friend, confidant, and provider all in one.

The Friendly Father

Contrary to the stereotypical image of a stern parent who never smiles, my father is a paradox of strictness and friendliness. He believes that children should not fear their parents. This conviction drives him to be more of a friend than a strict authority, ensuring that every expression of care and concern is felt rather than feared. His one-lined comments during our discussions often leave me speechless, his single sentence able to bring a tear to my eye.

From School to Teachers' Day

One particular instance during my school days stands out. On September 4th, while I was diligently preparing for Teachers' Day, my friend from school received a notification that her father had not communicated with her in days. In contrast, I was fortunate to receive a simple yet meaningful message from my father: “This means the tea has been ready kiddo.” Such a small gesture made me feel incredibly blessed to have a father who values friendship and communication so deeply.

A Different Bond with a Son

It is worth noting that the relationship between a father and a son is uniquely different from that between a father and a daughter. While I might express affection openly, my son might not. He cherishes the precious moments together and appreciates the sacrifices his father has made for his education. My father, a staunch traditionalist before the lockdown, once went so far as to almost call the police to ensure he stayed at home. Such actions reveal that the bond between a father and son is rooted in respect and understanding, far beyond the typical expressions of affection.

Unconditional Support and Material Gifts

My father has never held back when it comes to providing for me. He willingly gave up everything to ensure my education. With all of his savings, he allocated the best resources to ensure I received a top-class education. Today, I am one who takes the initiative to spoil my father and his wife. Nothing brings me more joy than taking them on long vacations, buying them air-conditioned rooms with big Smart TVs, and gifting them the latest smartphones. Even after their first flight journey, they continue to trust me to ensure their comfort and safety.

The Future of Our Bond

As grateful as I am for the present, I look towards the future with even more enthusiasm. Next year, I plan to take them on a foreign tour, expanding their horizons beyond domestic boundaries. This year, I aim to show them a broader picture of India, ensuring they experience every part of the country. The journey of parenthood is a continuous learning process, and I am excited to share more of my world with my parents, making them feel like they are my children too.

The relationship I share with my father is far more than just strictness or friendship. It is a blend of both, creating a bond that resonates beyond anything else. It is what defines a true father: One who is a father, a son, and a friend in one.
